Warren, NJ, USA, November 24, 2003 – Kicking off a second year-long tour, StrayLight’s 8 seat Virtual Theater system comprised of Virtual Reality (VR) helmets and shaker chairs and featuring a full custom 3-D animated production, was the headline attraction in Rockwell Automation’s Global Manufacturing Solutions booth at the Allen-Bradley Automation Fair. This Rockwell Automation (RA) company sponsored three-day event ran November 18-20, 2003 at the Midwest Airline Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This year the 3D movie was a heart pounding race that placed each theater guest inside the driver’s seat of a RA race car. The booth was themed as a racetrack and the VR theater seats were placed on the track, simulating race cars ready to embark on their sport.
Throughout the test lap and race, RA’s stereoscopic 3-D movie offered Rockwell Automation’s innovative solutions. Since the RA’s Global Manufacturing Solutions Group offers intangible services, one of the greatest project’s challenges was to communicate a difficult and complex message in a unique and exciting way.
Each seat in StrayLight’s theater system taps into the guests’ senses creating a realistic and memorable experience. The wide-field-of-view VR helmet delivers an immersive visual experience, with the images jumping off of the screen to create hi-impact 3D effects. The audio track is heard through the personal headphones, and is also tied into the rumble chairs which vibrate with the sound effects.
In January, StrayLight’s 4 seat Virtual Theater system will begin its second year on tour as part of Rockwell Automation’s Mobile Global Manufacturing Fair. This special event travels across the country and visits cities and rural areas alike, delivering Rockwell’s message to their US client base, especially benefiting those customers who were unable to visit the November Automation Fair.
